The Lac du Jaunay has made many tourists happy, who are in search of entertainment or a change of scenery. So in the summer hikers and mountainbikers enjoy the many paths around the lake, while fishermen can be found at the lakeside the whole year around.

Jaunay is a watercourse about 45 km long, that’s stretched across 13 communities, including Saint
Julien des Landes. The Lac du Jaunay is part of the county called Pays des Achards.
There are up to 21 walking paths and 230 kilometres of marked routes, of which the majority can be
found around the Lac du Jaunay.
Moutainbikes, canoes, kayaks, pedalos…
Besides the traditional hikers, you are very likely to encounter cyclist and mountainbikers on a stroll by
the lake, but also riders on their noble steed.
But there are other leisure activities on offer and hire around the lake too, such as canoes/kayaks,
pedalboats, windsurfing and a lot of other watersports.
The Lac du Jaunay is stretched out over almost hundred hectares
and is 8 km long. The lake is known and recognized among
fishermen that are able to practice their passion all year round. It’s
only forbidden to fish for pike and zander from the end of January to
mid May.

It’s good to know that around the Lac du Jaunay there are certain areas where it’s allowed to fish for
carp during the night.
In the lake, you will find pike, zander, rudd (red rudd), carp, tench, bream and bass.
A landmark for flora and fauna
Don’t forget to pack your binoculars, because you’ll certainly regret it if you do so. In fact, the Lac
du Jaunay is a favourite crossing spot for certain bird species. But the lake is also a host to a few
showpieces of the flora and fauna, there for you to admire (tree frog, grey heron, kingfisher, mallard,
golden oriole, otter, genet, tawny owl…)
